Lisburn is known as the birthplace of the Irish Linen industry, which was established in 1698 by Louis Crommelin who was a master bleacher and came from France.
Lisburn's motto is Ex Igne Resurgam, which means 'I will arise out of the fire'
Sir Richard Wallace created a park and school in Lisburn. He also gave the city five of his celebrated fountains, of which one can be found in Castle Gardens. Wallace Fountains can be found in Paris, Rotterdam, Canada, Brazil and Mozambique.
